William Eugene Tyson, 86, of Dudley, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on August 11, 2025. He was born on October 27, 1938, in Selma, North Carolina, to the late Margaret O. Hinnant.
Gene as he was known to friends and family grew up in Goldsboro, North Carolina, and proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, where he earned his GED during his four years of service. After his military career, he worked for several years at WFMC and pursued a variety of creative passions, including photography, calligraphy, and painting.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Barbara Britt Tyson, and his mother, Margaret O. Hinnant. He is survived by his children, Patricia (Harry) Monahan, Scott Tyson, Chuck Tyson, and Kris Tyson; grandchildren Laura, Ashton, Amber, and Brantley; great-grandchildren Mason, Makyna, Covi, and Lane; and his cherished dog, Stinky.
A graveside service to honor Gene's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday at Wayne Memorial Park, Goldsboro, with family and friends invited to attend.
Gene will be remembered for his creativity, his service to his country, his devotion to family, and the warmth he shared with all who knew him.
