Walter Larry Starddard, 76, of Goldsboro passed away Sunday at his residence surrounded by his family. He is the son of the late Walter Leo Starddard and Martha Pearl Stafford Grant. Larry was a retired gunner’s mate and master at arms in the United States Navy. A career navy veteran, Larry loved his time at sea as well as his time alone, volunteer work, and a Diet Pepsi and Marlboro. Larry was also a very religious man and had attended the Salvation Army Church.
A service to celebrate Larry’s life will be held on Thursday at 11:00 A.M. at the graveside in Wayne Memorial Park with Rev. Jim Willoughby. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 7:00 until 9:00 P.M.
Larry is survived by his daughter, Vanessa Starddard Rivenbark and husband, Billy of Goldsboro; half-sisters, Nancy Howell of Grantham, Patricia Lucas and husband, Roland of Black Creek, and Wanda Lynn Grant of Asheville; nieces, Lisa Francis, Michelle McGaw, Amy Bunn, Carmen Chapman, and Maranda Johns; a nephew, Brian Lucas; granddaughter, Taylor Rivenbark Cavenaugh and husband, Greg; and great grandson, Crew James Cavenaugh on the way.
