Wallace Ray Shackelford

Wallace Ray Shackelford, age 91, passed away on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, at Vidant Hospital in Greenville, NC. Born in Duplin County, he was the son of the late Melvin Shackelford and Virginia Poythress Shackelford. He was a member of Central Baptist Church and was a truck driver.

Ray had a life long passion for watching Westerns. He loved them all, but his favorite was by far Roy Rogers. Later in life he loved watching NASCAR.

A service to celebrate Ray’s life will be held Tuesday, October 8, 2024, at 2:00pm at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Walter Sloan officiating. The family will greet friends immediately following the service at the funeral home. Private entombment will be held at Wayne Memorial Park.

Ray is survived by his wife, Carole Grey Shackelford; his stepsons, David Gray Vann and wife, Sally Vann and Steve Randall Vann and wife, Marianne Vann; and is step grandchildren, Hailey Grey Vann, Christina Wilkinson, Saylor Vann and Sunnie Vann Batson.
