Virginia Strickland, 87, entered her heavenly home Wednesday at Genesis in Mt. Olive. She was the daughter of the late Floyd Daniel and Louise Jernigan Boone and was married to the late Joseph “Joe” Strickland, her lifelong love for over 40 years. Virginia was a beloved mother, grandmother and friend to many. She enjoyed fishing trips to the Surf City pier and trips to the beach. Virginia was known as the “Mullett Lady” Virginia had a heart of gold that loved helping family, friends and others. Cooking and serving meals to family and friends brought joy to her life. She was loved by everyone she met.
A service to celebrate Virginia’s life will be held on Saturday at 1:00 P.M.in the chapel of Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Virginia is survived by her children, Rose Hinton of Sneads Ferry, Danny Ray Strickland and wife, Linda of Mt. Olive, Ricky Strickland and wife, Kathy of Gainesville, FL, Teresa Strickland Nance of Kinston, and Victor Strickland of Kinston; a brother, Jimmy Boone and wife, Jill of La Grange; a sister, Carolyn Kennedy of Wake Forest; 11 Grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren; and 2 great great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, Virginia was preceded in death by sisters, Dixie Thomas and Jane Lambert.
