Sue Neill Everette Schell, age 87, passed away on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at Willow Creek Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Goldsboro, North Carolina. Born in Robeson County, she was the daughter of the late James Elbert Everette and Mabel McMillan Everette.
Mrs. Schell was the widow of the late William Schell, Jr. She was a devoted homemaker who faithfully supported her family throughout a life shaped by her role as a military spouse. She found great enjoyment in visiting the Wayne County Courthouse, where she spent time observing trials and visiting with those she met there—so much so that she was known to have a special reserved parking space. She also volunteered at the O’Berry Center and was a member of Adamsville Baptist Church in Goldsboro, reflecting her strong Southern Baptist faith.
She is preceded in death by her daughter Mary Kathryn Sifford.
She is survived by her daughters, Deborah Lynn Custer (Ray) and Billie Sue Mathias (Mark); her grandchildren, Caitlyn Virginia Stone, Brittany Faye Smith (William), James Mathias, and Daniel Mathias; her great-grandchildren, Garrett Stone, Madilynn Smith, and Raelyn Rodriguez; and her brother, Douglas "Mac" Everette.
The family will celebrate her life privately.
Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home & Crematory is honored to be serving the Schell family.
