Sonya Petina (Thornton) Mendez

Sonya Petina Thornton Mendez, age 55, passed away on Friday, February 2nd. Born in Wayne County, she was the daughter of the late Sonny Dan Thornton and Gloria Holmes. She was also preceded in death by her sister Tiffany Thornton

A service to celebrate Sonya’s life will be held on Monday, February 12th, 2024, at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home.  Interment will follow at Wayne Memorial Park.  The family will greet friends and family at the funeral home on Monday afternoon from 1:00pm - 1:45pm.

In addition to her mother, Sonya is survived by her husband, Jose “Peoples” Angel Mendez, Brother, Robert Thornton, Sister, Tammy Thornton.
