Simeon Baker “S.B.” Newell, III, age 82, passed away early Saturday morning at UNC Health Johnston. S.B. was the son of the late Simeon Baker Newell, II and Louise Wiggs Newell and was husband of the late Raye Rowe Newell. S.B. was also preceded in death by his brothers, Edward Deleon Newell and David Henry Newell along with his sister, Lille Newell Holmes; a sister in law, Faye Rowe; and brothers in law, Bruce Olive and Edward “Baby” Holmes. S.B. was a long-time and well-known tractor mechanic and a member of the Antique Tractor Club of the Carolinas and a founding member of the Eastern Carolina Vintage Farm Equipment Club.
A service to celebrate the life of S.B. will be held on Wednesday at 11:00am by the graveside at Wayne Memorial Park. Family members will greet friends Tuesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home.
S.B. is survived by his daughter, Lucinda “Cindy” Newell; his grandson, Dylan (Tiffany) Wells; a great grandson, Jordan Wells and a second great grandchild due in January; his brother, Randy (Phyllis) Newell; his sisters, Eleanor (David) Smith, Lois (Bob) Hannum and Ann Olive; along with an adopted son, Al Cotter. He is also survived by a brother-in-law, Kenneth (Thelma) Rowe; a sister-in-law, Joy Newell; numerous nieces and nephews and his canine companion, “Bear”.
