Shelia Ann Slater Gambill, 70, of Dudley passed away at Wayne U.N.C. Hospital. Born in Goldsboro, NC, she was the daughter of the late Archie P. Slater and Peggy A. Chalk and was the wife of Richard B. Gambill. Shelia was a member of Harvest Fellowship Church, where she assisted in the church food bank. Shelia was an avid animal lover, a dedicated supporter of the United States military, and a wonderful cook. She was the Family Support Coordinator for the 230th Support Battalion of Goldsboro, and served as Family Support Coordinator at Seymour Johnson A.F.B. and Beale A.F.B. During Desert Storm she would gather donations from local business and send these items and items she had cooked to military personnel overseas. She also loved to cook for family and friends and would deliver many of her candy or other baked goods for birthdays, holidays, and illness.
A service of love and remembrance will be held at the graveside in Wayne Memorial Park on Thursday at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Dr. Josh Whitfield officiating. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son, Kenneth “Billy” Gambill of Dudley; a sister, Donna Whitfield and husband, Mickey of Mt. Olive; grandchildren, Calvin Burleson, Chayton Burleson, Liam Gambill, Annabelle Gambill, and Seth Gambill; and nephews, Josh Whitfield and wife, Allison(Jack and Abby) and Taylor Whitfield and wife, Brandy(Callie and Madelyn); and special cousins, Marie Joyner, Gwen Morris, and Vickie Wallace
In addition to her parents, a son, Phillip Gambill preceded her in death.
