Ronnie Alex Thompson, age 27, passed away Saturday, August 1, 2026. Born in Wayne County, NC, he was a graduate of Southern Wayne High School.
Though his time on earth was far too short, Alex lived a life full of energy, compassion, and genuine love for others. He never met a stranger and had a remarkable ability to make everyone feel welcome. Whether someone needed a helping hand or simply a friend to talk to, Ronnie was always there without hesitation.
A gifted athlete, Alex loved sports from an early age. He proudly played football for Grantham and Southern Wayne, where he built lasting friendships and unforgettable memories. Even after his playing days, he could often be found on the basketball court, enjoying pickup games with childhood friends and new acquaintances alike.
Beyond athletics, Alex had a creative spirit. He enjoyed drawing and expressing himself through art. His love for music knew no bounds, as he appreciated all genres and found joy in every melody. Alex also had a special place in his heart for animals and never passed up an opportunity to show them kindness.
When he wasn't spending time with family and friends, Alex loved the thrill of riding dirt bikes and four-wheelers, embracing every adventure with enthusiasm and a fearless spirit.
Alex will be remembered for his infectious smile, generous heart, and unwavering willingness to help others. His kindness, laughter, and love touched countless lives, and his memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. Although Alex’s life was brief, the impact he made will endure for generations. He leaves behind a legacy of friendship, compassion, and unconditional love that will never be forgotten. He will be deeply missed and forever loved.
Alex is survived by his parents, Ronnie & Tania Thompson and his mother, Miranda Eve Allen; sisters, Amanda Leann Davis & fiancé, Dashaun, Cindy Thompson & husband, James, Bridget Cutway & fiancé, Set, and Jasmine Allen; paternal grandmother, Rose Evans Capps; maternal grandmothers, Betty Matuskiewicz and Roberta Wright; Aunt, Jennie Kornegay & husband, Willie; Uncles, David Thompson & Tonya, Timothy Capps, Kevin Capps, Kent Rivenbark and William Davis; nephew, Shiloh Boone Hagen; Cousins, David Thompson & fiancé, Amber, Hunter Thompson and Dakota Thompson.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, James “Dink” Capps.
Funeral services will be held Monday, August 10, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home with Rev. Daniel Weeks officiating. Burial will follow in Wayne Memorial Park. The family will visit with family and friends immediately following the service at the graveside.
