Rachel Pauline (Perry) Barnes

Rachel Pauline Perry Barnes, 96, passed away Saturday at Kitty Askins Hospice Center. Born in Wayne County, she was the daughter of the late Jesse and Flora Godwin Perry and wife of the late John Perry Barnes, sister of the late Jessie “Jack” Perry and Joseph “Buster” Perry. She was also preceded in death by six of her siblings that died at an early age, along with a son in law, Terry Vanderburg and a daughter in law, Carolyn Barnes.

A service to celebrate her life will be held Wednesday at 10:00am at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home with Rev. Daniel Lancaster officiating.  Burial will follow at Emmaus Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will greet friends at the cemetery and at other times will be at the home of her daughter, Pauline Vanderburg.

Mrs. Barnes is survived by her children, John Perry Barnes, Jr. and wife, Patsy, Charles Ray Barnes and wife, Libby, James Kent Barnes, Ricky Dion Barnes and wife, Lesley, Pauline Barnes Vanderburg and Betty Louise Barnes; a brother, Elwood Sam Perry; seven grandchildren, Paula V. Aycock, Theda Barnes, Garrett Barnes, Jason Barnes, Rachel “The Baby” Barnes, Spencer Rose and Tyler Rose; ten great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
