Phyllis Lewis Obituary

 

Phyllis Whitfield Lewis, age 62, of Mount Olive, passed away at Wayne Memorial Hospital on Sunday, September 4, 2022 surrounded by her family. She was born on December 11,1959 to James G. (J.G.) and Hetty Murphy Whitfield. Mrs. Lewis was a loving, supportive wife, mother, “Mimi,” daughter, aunt, and sister, as well as an accomplished and talented pianist. 

Mrs. Lewis was an accountant and spent 22 years working as the accountant to Best Gas and Grill as well as the many other companies that were part of Best Machinery. She attended Thunder Swamp Pentecostal Holiness Church but also served many churches in the area as Music Director and/or Pianist. She was well known for her talent as a musician and played for countless weddings and funerals throughout her life. She always considered it a great honor to be asked to play for any event … music was truly her gift!

A funeral to celebrate the life of this special lady and friend to so many will be held at Thunder Swamp Pentecostal Holiness Church on Friday, September 9th at 2:00 p.m. conducted by Bishop Jim Whitfield and Reverend Mark Whitfield. Remarks will also be shared by Mr. Murray Crawford. Visitation will be held at the gravesite after the burial and at other times at the home.

Mrs. Lewis is survived by her husband, Rex, daughter Kymmy Shadle, her granddaughters, Savannah, Isabelle, Emma and Dakota, a son-in-law, James Shadle, her sister, Angela Whitfield Britt, twin nephews, John Whitfield Britt and James Livingston Britt, special and dear friends, Ray and Wanda Best, a sister-in-law, Margaret Lee Lewis of Wrightsville Beach, NC, a brother-in-law and his wife, Ellis Ray and Barbara Lewis of Newton Grove; as well as a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends whom she loved so much. 

Phyllis was predeceased by her son and “baby boy,” Joey Weeks, her parents, J.G. and Hetty Whitfield, her maternal grandparents, Harvey and Ruth King Murphy, her paternal grandparents, Albert and Ella Mae Hudson Whitfield, her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Buck and Isabelle Lewis and a brother-in-law Jerry U. Britt.

Interment will take place at Maplewood Cemetery after the service.
