Nita Mae Jones Jackson, age 88, of the Beautancus community, passed away on September 22, 2026, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro.
Born in Duplin County, Nita was the daughter of the late Ralph Alwood Jones and Berta Louise Miller Jones. She was a member of Stanford Presbyterian Church, where her faith and connection to her community remained important parts of her life.
To say Nita was a woman who could do it all would almost be an understatement. She was truly a jack-of-all-trades—and, more often than not, a master of them all. Whether she was fishing, crocheting, working around the farm, or even building her own house, there seemed to be very little that Nita could not accomplish once she set her mind to it.
She possessed a sharp mind, a determined spirit, and an independence that defined the way she lived. Nita never shied away from hard work or a challenge. Instead, she met each task head-on, confident that she could figure it out and get the job done. She was the kind of woman who believed that if she did something herself, she knew it would be done the right way.
But perhaps Nita’s greatest accomplishments were not the things she built with her hands, but the lessons she built into the lives of her children and grandchildren. She taught them how to work, how to persevere, how to appreciate the simple pleasures of life, and how to stand on their own two feet. Her lessons came not only through words, but also through the example she lived every day.
Some of the family’s most treasured memories were made alongside Nita—from fishing trips down at Harkers Island to time spent living and working on the farm in Duplin County. Those experiences became more than simple outings or chores; they became lessons in life, family, determination, and enjoying the world around them.
Nita embraced life with confidence and courage. When difficulties arose, she did not wait for someone else to solve them. She faced them herself, believing that whatever challenge stood before her could be conquered with enough determination, knowledge, and hard work. That strength became part of the legacy she leaves behind.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Anita Gay Jackson Brock and her husband, Roy Alan Brock; granddaughter, Stacy Jackson Brock; grandson, Dylan Brian Jackson; great-grandson, John Alan Quinn; Joellen Jackson Langston; and many special cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends who were blessed to know and love her.
In addition to her parents, Nita was preceded in death by her son, Carroll Wayne Jackson.
A memorial service celebrating Nita’s life was held at 11:00 am , Sunday, September 27, 2026, at Stanford Presbyterian Church in the Beautancus community.
Nita leaves behind the memory of a woman who was capable, determined, intelligent, and fiercely independent. She showed her family that there was no substitute for hard work, no reason to fear a challenge, and very little that could not be accomplished when one was willing to learn and put one’s hands to the task.
The house she built may stand as evidence of what her hands could accomplish, but her greatest monument will always be found in the generations she taught, the family she loved, and the strength and wisdom she passed along to those who follow after her.
