Nannie Cotton (Daly) Mills

Nannie Daly Cotton Mills, age 90, passed away on Wednesday, December 20, 2023 at her residence following a brief illness. Born in Wayne County, she was the daughter of the late Alton Daly and Henrie Grady Daly. She was preceded in death by her first husband and father of her children, Deloit Cotton and her second husband, Roy Mills, along with his two sons, Wayne and Randy Mills; her grandchildren, Deloit Cotton Best, Jeremy Wayne Carlton and Sarah Elizabeth Carlton; and her sisters, Lorraine Price and Julia Daly.

Nannie was a retired nurse from Wayne Memorial Hospital and the Wayne County Health Department. She was also a hairdresser for seventeen years and a member of Eureka Christian Church.

A service to celebrate Nannie’s life will be held on Friday, December 22rd at 2:00 pm at Eureka Christian Church with Rev. Frank Purvis and Rev. Michael Sykes officiating. Burial will follow in the Cotton Family Cemetery. The family will greet friends on Thursday December 21nd from 5:00 until 7:00 pm at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home and at other times at her home.

She is survived her daughters, Deane and Richard Best, Melinda Cotton Carlton and Julie and Bobby Joe Whitfield; her grandchildren, Hannah Daly Best, William David Best, Steven Alton Carlton, Rachel Lynn Carlton, Brittany and Jamie Williams, and Jackson Shaw Whitfield; and three great grandchildren, Nathan Wayne Carlton, Hattie Adele Williams and Mayven Kate Williams.
