Mary Lou (Massengill) Gray

Mary Lou Massengill Gray died Friday, November 11, 2022. Born in Wayne County on November 4, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Claudie Andrew Massengill and Mittie Bell Lambert Massengill.

Educated in Wayne County schools Mary Lou had a long career at Barry Industries. After retirement she found joy in opening and operating Cornerstone Upholstery.  She loved to sew, and could make anything, but nothing made her happier than having all of her family together.

A celebration of life will be held at St. Paul United Methodist Church on Wednesday November 16th at 2:00 pm with the Reverend Phyllis Vail officiating. The family will greet friends following the service. A private burial will follow at Wayne Memorial Park.

Mary Lou is survived by her children; Jerry Gray, Sandra Gray Pettit (Bob), Kathy Gray Johnson (Mike) and Roy Gray (Lee) all of Goldsboro. Grandchildren, Jessica Gray, David Gray, Jake Gray, Lauren Pettit, Robbie Pettit, Christopher Johnson, Brandon Johnson, Nathan Gray and Mallory Parrott along with 9 great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews who loved their “Aunt Lou”.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Lessie Martin, Marvin Massengill, Needham Massengill, Ernest Massengill, Dorothy Shaver, Janet Pearsall, Claudie Massengill, Carl Massengill and Bill Massengill, and granddaughter Marie Gray.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be given to 3HC/Kitty Askins Hospice Center, 107 Handley Park Court, Goldsboro, NC 27534.
