Mary Pauline Owens Barrett “Memaw” received her heavenly wings on April 4, 2026, surrounded by her loving family at her home. Born in Wilson, North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late John Owens and Elsie Winstead Owens. Mary served as an administrator for the U.S. government and was a devoted military wife, traveling extensively alongside her husband.
She was married for 48 years to the late Caryol Stuart Barrett and is preceded in death by her daughter, Jacqueline B. Faglier; her grandsons, Christopher L. Juenger and Joshua B. Peoples. She is also preceded by her father and mother and brothers, Royce, Durwood and Allen Owens.
Mary is survived by her son, William Stuart Barrett; daughters Diane B. Johnson and Mary L. Branson; and grandchildren Jason D. Chisholm and Leslie Danielle Gravley, William T. Juenger, Kelli J. Metts, along with her beloved great-grandchildren: Madi, Cami, Jacob, Connor, and Christopher.
A passionate gardener and cook, Mary found joy in nurturing her grandchildren and had a deep love for country and southern gospel music.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, April 10, at 1 PM at Lafayette Memorial Park, 2301 Ramsey Street Fayetteville, North Carolina. Friends are welcome to briefly gather following the service. Flowers are welcome, or memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
