Martha Mae (Miller) Tillman

Martha Tillman, aged 77, of Goldsboro, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on October 13, 2025, at UNC-Wayne Healthcare. Born in Wayne County, she was the daughter of the late Jesse Miller and Alma Louise Vernon Miller.

Martha dedicated many years to her career in food service at Cherry Hospital, where she was known for her kindness and care. Beyond her professional life, Martha was passionate about crocheting. She lovingly created beautiful pieces to share with cancer patients, stillborn babies in local hospitals, and those in need, providing warmth and comfort to many.

A devoted mother, sister, and grandmother, Martha cherished spending time with her family. She is survived by her son, Michael Godwin Jr.; daughters, Marcel Hale and husband Mike, and Rhonda Tillman; brother, George Thomas Miller and his wife Patricia, Preston Miller; sister, Rhonda Underhill and her husband Durwood; and her beloved grandchildren: Tara Payne and husband Christopher, April Young, Sierra Hale, Kelly Zimmerman, Sarah Zimmerman, Michael Ray Godwin, Scott Godwin, and Sean Godwin. She also leaves behind great-grandchildren Elizabeth Payne, Emma Payne, Levi Lumbic, Joshua Godwin, and Ayden Godwin.

A celebration of life will be held Sunday, October 19, 2025, at 2:00 PM at The Salvation Army Church 610 N. William Street, Goldsboro to honor Martha Mae’s life and legacy. Cap. Dawn Whitaker and Ms. Nancy Sullivan will be presiding. Please use the William Street entrance to the church.
