Katie Mae Sutton

Katie Mae Sutton was born on December 25, 1927, to the late Allen Sutton and Bertha Kornegay Sutton in a small farming community (Bucklesberry) in LaGrange, NC.   She was one twelve children-six boys and six girls.

Katie was grounded in her faith as a Christian, and she was life-long member of St. Matthew Free Will Baptist Church located in LaGrange, NC.  

Katie’s devotion to her family was demonstrated in discipline and hard work to provide for them. As the pillar of the family, she instilled values of hard work, perseverance, and family values in her children and grandchildren. Katie sacrificed her adult life to raise her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Katie was preceded in death by her Children: Elonza Lewis Jr. (Doodle), Norman Lee Tripp, Jr. (Snooty), and Emma Doris Murchison; Sisters:  Dortha Mae Sutton, Alice Davis (Gert), Bettie Robinson (Bet), Bertha Whitfield (Lee); Brothers:  Wright Sutton, June Sutton, Dean Sutton, Joenathan Sutton (Bud), and John Sutton. Great grandchild: Dominick Arthur.

Katie is survived by her grandchildren: Katie Lopez (Chris), Emma Murchison, Mary Johnson, Leroy Murchison, Cedrick Johnson, David Robinson, and Anthony Arthur.  Her surviving siblings are Frances Robinson and Thomas Sutton (Marie), sister-in-law, Brenda Sutton.  Katie is survived by a host of great grandchildren, great, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and longtime friends.

Funeral services to celebrate her life will be held on Friday, January 17, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. from the chapel of Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home with Pastor Preston Sutton officiating. Burial will follow in Wayne Memorial Park. A time of visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
