Joseph David “J.D.” Sasser, age 89, died peacefully on Wednesday, February 12, 2020 at the home he built in Goldsboro NC over 50 years ago.
Born in Norfolk, Va., he was the son of the late Harry and Kathryn Perkins Sasser. A veteran of the United States Navy, JD was retired from Cherry Hospital. He was the husband of the late Sara Brown Sasser. They were married 62 years!
Funeral services will be held Friday, February 21, at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home at 11:00 am
with Dr. Glenn Phillips, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery with Rev. Roch T. Drozdzik of St.Mary's Catholic Parish presiding.
The family will visit with friends at 10:00 am on Friday at the funeral home.
Mr. Sasser was known to most as simply JD. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. He walked thousands of miles in Eastern NC with his beloved hunting dogs in pursuit of quail. He also spent countless hours on his boat with his wife and other family and friends. He was a carpenter by trade and a true Craftsman at everything he did. He was dearly loved by many and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
JD is survived by his sister-in-law, Jesse Britt Sasser; his brother-in-law, Ron Brown; nieces and nephews, Robert
Martin Sasser, Katherine Lynn Sasser Kelly, Michael Timothy Sasser, Russell Patrick Sasser, Angelia
Sasser, John A. Fields, Franklin Fields, Ryan Brown and Elisha Baker.
Along with his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Robert Edward
Sasser.
