John Russell Davenport, Jr., age 60, passed away on Sunday evening at Wayne UNC Healthcare surrounded by his family. Born in St. Louis, MO, he was the son of the late John Russell Davenport. He was employed for over 15 years at Butterball in Mount Olive where he currently served as a mechanic supervisor. He was a Veteran of the U. S. Navy.
A service to celebrate his life will be held on Wednesday, April 10th at 11:00 am at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Wayne Memorial Park. The family will greet friends Tuesday evening from 5:00 until 7:00 pm at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the funeral home.
John is survived by his wife, Lemy Davenport; his mother, Linda Powers; a son, John “Rusty” Davenport, III; a daughter, Letty Sungenis-Davenport and her husband, Austin; brothers, Mel Powers, Jr. and wife, Cheri, Steven Powers and wife, Michelle; sisters, Lynna Chauncey and husband, Steve, Stephanie Hanson and husband, Eric, and Tanyau Benton and husband, Sam; a grandchild, Ariela Ava Sungenis; and numerous nieces and nephews.
