Joe Thomas Smith, Sr. age 88, passed away Sunday, September 1, 2024 at his home in Dudley with his adoring family at his side. He was the son of the late Coy Poole and Mary Lou Herring Smith and husband of the late Ann Summerlin Smith. For over 40 years, Joe was a mail carrier for U.S. Postal Service in Mount Olive. A member of Dudley Christian Church, Joe also was a volunteer fireman with the Dudley Volunteer Fire Department, serving his community for 27 years.
Funeral services will be held Friday, September 6th at 2:00 pm in the chapel of Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home with the Rev. Blane Smith officiating. Committal services will follow in Wayne Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Joe Thomas is survived by his wife, Teresa “Terri” Smith; his son, Joe Thomas Smith, Jr.; his sisters, Carolyn Rhodes and Betty Lou Ezzell; two grandsons, Ryan Smith and Bryce Smith; along with numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
