Jimmy Eugene Kearney, age 77, of 205 Burch Road, Mt. Olive, passed away Friday at his home. Born in Greene County, NC, he was the son of the late Ruby Kearney Barker and the grandson of the late William Morgan and Carrie Wade Kearney. A veteran of the United States Army, he was a self-employed Truck Driver. He enjoyed time on his tractor and was a member of Antique Tractor Club of the Carolinas.
A graveside service to celebrate his life will be held Tuesday, July 20, 2021 at 11:00 am in Wayne Memorial Park. The family will have a visitation for family and friends Monday from 7:00 to 9:00 pm at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home.
Jim is survived by his wife of 40 years, Janet Grantham Kearney; daughter, Veronika Riedel; sisters, Carol Kearney Lanaville (Mose) and Sarah Kearney; nephew, Brett Grantham; special cousins, Diane Lanaville Smith, Anna Edwards, Carrie Cox Burger, Molly Williams, David Lanaville, William Edwards, Wade Lanaville, Anthony Cox, David Paul Flowers, John-Mark Flowers, Thaddea Bryson, Kasie Smith, Anthony Smith; half-sisters, Becky Barker Brocker and Lynn Barker Finnegan.
Along with his mother and grandparents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Wade H. Kearney, William D. Kearney, Willard Paul Kearney; sister, Betty Kearney Cox; half sister, Kathy Barker Adkins; half brothers, Clyde E. Barker, Jr. and Donald Barker.
