Jessie Britt Sasser

Jessie Britt Sasser, age 87, passed away Sunday evening at Wayne UNC Health Care. Born in Wayne County, she was the daughter of the late George R. Britt and Madge Martin Britt and wife of the late Robert Edward “Beaver” Sasser. Jessie was also preceded in death by a son, Todd Sasser; brothers, Jimmy Britt and Bobby Britt and her brother-in-law, J.D. Sasser and his wife, Sara Sasser.

Jessie was a member of the First Baptist Church in Goldsboro and attended Friends of Compassion for over twenty years. She loved to watch music shows, figure skating and even sports. She had many fond memories of her times living with her grandparents in Mount Olive, the late Jessie and Winnie Martin, but first and foremost, Jessie was a loving mother and fabulous cook. She was well known for her sassy sense of humor and her love of travel, especially with her family. She was very devoted and loyal to her friends. She would give you the shirt off her back, a place to stay if needed and one heck of a meal.

A service to celebrate Jessie’s life will be held Thursday, December 4, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at the Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Adam Street officiating. Burial will follow in Willowdale Cemetery. The family will greet friends on Thursday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Jessie is survived by her children, Marty Sasser, Tim (Jane) Sasser, Russell Sasser, Kathy (Anthony) Kelly and Angie Sasser; her sisters, Judy (Mac) Parks and Joyce Burgess; a sister-in-law, Annie Britt; six grandchildren, Patrick, Aubri, Kaleb, Haeden, Kyle and Kelli; and a great grandchild, Nora. She is also survived by her best friend, Connie Brown, her special friends, Bill Davis, who was like a son, Glenda Braswell, Diane and Joe Bradley; along with Marty's guardian angel, James Jordan and Kelly Barber, who went above and beyond helping to take care of Jessie.

Marty was not just a son, but her sole caregiver for the last couple of years. He was totally devoted to his mom and never left her side, even holding her hand as she crossed into Heaven.
