Tom Jeffrey Laster, age 58, passed away on Monday at his residence. Born in Asheville, NC, Jeff was an electrician and an avid outdoorsman. He loved collecting native American artifacts and was known as a Rock Sniffer, finding arrowheads and other artifacts. He enjoyed rock flint-knapping and looking for freshly plowed fields to explore.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, John Paul Jones and Jessie H. Jones and his paternal grandparents, Robert Stanley Laster and Ruby Tom Laster.
A service to celebrate his life will be held Friday at 2:00 pm in the chapel of Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home. A committal service will be held on Monday, June 14th at 10:00am at the Eastern Carolina State Veterans Cemetery. Family members will greet friends Thursday evening from 7:00 until 8:30 pm at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home.
Jeff is survived by his wife, Sandy Laster; his sons, Randy Laster and wife, Hannah, Robby Laster and wife, Shayna; his mother, Linda Jones Clark; his father, Tom S. Laster and his wife, Dessie; his grandchildren, Asia Howard, Eli Laster, Brayden Tyner, Rebecca Laster and Aiden Laster; his special friends, Tim and Lisa Mooring and his beloved dog, “Moose”.
