Janice Mae (Winstead) Newcomb

Janice Mae Winstead Newcomb, age 74, passed away Wednesday at Wayne UNC Healthcare. Born in Nash County, she was the daughter of the late Lindsay and Ella Mae Rackley Winstead and wife of the late Kenneth Ray Newcomb.  She was also preceded in death by a sister, Diane W. Johnson. Janice was a member of Emmaus Baptist Church. She was always looking out for others, especially her neighbors and church family. She enjoyed working in her yard, spending time with her family and especially loved her grandchildren.

A service to celebrate her life will be held Saturday at 12:00 noon at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Willoughby and Rev. Dennis Pollock officiating. Family members will greet friends Saturday at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in Wayne Memorial Park.

Janice is survived by her son Kenneth Ashley Newcomb and his wife, Samantha Ewell Newcomb; her daughter, Lisa Newcomb Ferrell; her son in law, Ralph Ferrell; her sisters, Barbara W. Horrell, Kaye W. Stroud and Faye W. Strickland; four grandchildren, Bailey Ferrell Layton and her husband, Michael Layton, Bryant Ferrell and special friend, Baylee Tyndall, Emersyn Newcomb and Tenley Newcomb; two great grandchildren, Brody Layton and Beckham Layton.
