James Leslie Hughes, age 55, passed away early in the morning of Thursday, September 19, 2024, at ECU Health Inpatient Hospice in Greenville, NC. Born in Fort Walton Beach, FL, James was the son of Shirley Hughes and the late William Brewster Hughes. James graduated from Southern Wayne High School in 1987. He attended Wayne Community College and received an associates degree in Auto Mechanics. He was a mechanic and formerly worked with Sears and Advance Auto Parts.

A service to celebrate James’ life will be held on Monday, September 23rd at 6:00 pm at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home. The family will greet friends on Monday at the funeral home following the service.

In addition to his mother, James is survived by his brother, Cary Hughes and his wife, Kim; his sister, Wanda Hughes; nephews, Alex Hughes and Jordan Hughes; and his longtime friend, Bonnie Davis.
