James Brannon Obituary

On Wednesday, June 2, 2021, James Monroe (Jim) Brannon, loving husband, father, and grandfather, passed away at the age of 89. Jim was born on January 1, 1932 in Hartford, AL to Roy Branon and Hunter McNeal Brannon. He graduated from Geneva County High School in 1950 and joined the National Guard, ultimately serving in the Korean conflict. Jim received his BS degree in Industrial Engineering from Auburn University in 1956.

Jim began his career with Western Electric Works in Winston Salem, NC. On November 18, 1961, he married Mary Elizabeth (Lib) May in Dudley Christian Church, Dudley, NC. They raised two children, Beth and Mark, in Shreveport, LA where Jim served as the Director of Human Resources for Western Electric Shreveport Works, retiring to Dudley in January of 1990.

Jim had a heart for helping others realize their dreams. In Shreveport he served the community through the Telephone Pioneers of America, United Way, and HAP House. In Dudley he served the community through Dudley Christian Church, Mount Olive Masonic Lodge 208 A.F. & A.M., and Wayne Shrine Club.

Jim was preceded in death by his father, James Roy Brannon, and his mother, Lillie Hunter Ketchum. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Lib, his brother, Marcon Lamar Brannon, Sr. (Joyce) of Hartford, AL and his children, Amy Elizabeth (Beth) Cicchetti (Mark) of Tallahassee, FL, James Mark Brannon (Dewana) of Dunn, NC, and his grandchildren, Thomas Ford Kirkland (Stephanie) of Milton, FL, Shelby May Kirkland of Orlando, FL, Mary Hannah Brannon of Greenville, NC, Aston Reid Kirkland of Tallahassee, FL, and Leah Grace Brannon of Dunn, NC. Jim and Lib have three great-grandchildren. He loved his nephews and their families with a passion and enjoyed visiting Hartford as often as possible.

A funeral worship service will be held on Sunday, June 6, 2021 at Dudley Christian Church at 3:00 PM. The family will receive visitors beginning at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Dudley Christian Church, Brogden United Methodist Church or a charity of your choice.
