Howard Surles

Edgar Howard Surles, age 70, passed away at his residence Friday evening. Born in Wayne County, he was the son of the late Roland Harden Surles and the late Ethel Holland Surles. He was a member of the Friendly Holiness Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church and was a retired fireman at Jordan’s Chapel Volunteer Fire Department. He retired from Cooper Standard and was a former Boy Scout Leader.

A service to celebrate his life will be held Tuesday at 10:00 am at Wayne Memorial Park with Rev. Richard McKenna officiating.

Mr. Surles is survived by his sons, Patrick Surles, Stephen Surles and Brandon Surles and his wife, Katherine; his brothers, Henderson Surles and wife, Phyllis and Randal Surles and his wife, Jewel; his sisters, Sarah Surles, Ruby Waters and her husband, Bud and Marilyn Taylor and her husband, Joe; and his two grandchildren, Evelyn Surles and Hailey Surles.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be directed to the Friendly Holiness PFWB Church, 1014 S. Jordans Chapel Rd., Mount Olive, NC 28365.
