Helen Marie Strickland Barbour, age 87, passed away Tuesday, November 21 at Wake Medical Center surrounded by family. Born in Sampson County, she was the daughter of the late Walton Shelby Strickland and Annie Mae Hall Strickland and wife of the late William Kenneth Barbour. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Kim Dougherty and brothers, Mack Strickland, Jim Strickland, and Billy Ray Strickland. Helen was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church in Goldsboro and was retired from the First Baptist Church Day Care where she served as their director for many years.
A service to celebrate her life will be announced at a later date.
Helen is survived by her son, Kenneth Barbour, Jr. and his wife, Paula; a daughter, Christy Turnbull and her husband, Dean; a brother, Deloite Strickland; two sisters, Shirley Cannady and Annie Jean Benson; and eight grandchildren.
