George Ruffin “Pete” Newcomb, 88, of Seven Springs passed away Wednesday at Goldsboro Assisted Living. He is the son of the late George Newcomb and Sadie Ruth Pelt Williams, and is the husband of the late Gayle Sanderson Newcomb for 52 years. Pete served in the United States Army during the Korean war. He worked for Kemp Furniture, then he went to work driving trucks for Thurston Motor Lines
and then Roadway before he retired. He loved driving his horseless carriage in all the parades and going fishing. Pete was also an avid Carolina fan.
A service to celebrate Pete’s life will be held on Friday at 3:00 PM graveside at Wayne Memorial Park with Pastor Phillip James officiating. The family will receive friends following the graveside service.
Pete is survived by his nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, brothers, Cederic, Glenn, and Jimmy and sisters, Joyce and Connie preceded him in death.
