Everette Joseph “EJ” Best, age 85, passed away on Wednesday at ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville. Born in Wayne County, he was the son of the late Vaden Joseph Best and the late Fonnie Bell Smith Best and husband of the late Rosie Best. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Janice Tucker. “EJ” was a member of Selah Christian Church, a 1955 graduate of Grantham High School and was retired from the U.S. Navy.
A service to celebrate his life will be held Saturday at 11:00 am at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Patrick Muston officiating. Burial will follow in Wayne Memorial Park with military honors. The family will greet friends Saturday one hour prior to the service at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home.
Mr. Best is survived by his wife, Anne Best; daughters, Denise Lupton and husband, Doyle, and Linda Hedspeth and husband, Bill; a step-daughter, Lisa Fikac and husband, Butch; a grandson, Michael Saunders and his fiancée, Jenna Lee; and a great grandson, Rudy Wuthrich.
