Edith (Howell) Sutton

     Edith Howell Sutton, resident of Smith Chapel Community of Mt. Olive, passed away Sunday, May 9, 2021, at Wayne Memorial Hospital, Goldsboro.  

A graveside memorial service is planned for 2:00 PM on Thursday, May 13, at Wayne Memorial Park, officiated by Rev. Jim Whitfield.  The family will receive guests at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home one hour before the service.

Edith is the daughter of the late R. A. and Lillie Sutton Howell and was one of eleven siblings in a faith-oriented family.  Deceased siblings include Edgar Howell, Alice H. Wallace, Minnie H. Anderson, Estelle H. Godwin, Mabel Mozingo Britton, Rev. George Albert Howell, Lucille H. Rackley, and Albert Cherry Howell.

 Surviving siblings and in-laws include sisters Blonnie H, Price and Katie H. Edwards; brother-in-law Woodrow Anderson; and sisters-in-law Wilma Howell, Melba Howell, and Joyce Sutton Blizzard.

As the wife of the late Craven L. Sutton, Edith was a devoted homemaker, the mother of four children, and a lifelong member of Thunder Swamp PH Church.  She is survived by two sons: William Ben Sutton and C. L. Sutton, Jr and wife Nell. She is survived, also, by one grandson, Joseph L. Tuten and wife Rachel.  Deceased children are Edna S. Tuten and John H. Sutton.

The family expresses deep gratitude to the sixth-floor nursing staff of Wayne Memorial Hospital.  Their level of care and expertise is a credit to the high calling of nurse care.
