Dwight Willis Thornton, age 59, passed away on Sunday at Duke University Medical Center. Born in Wayne County, he was the son of the late Percy Clay Thornton and the late Kathleen Hughes Thornton. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Kathy Smith. Dwight was a truck driver and member of Eureka Christian Church.
A service to celebrate his life will be held Friday at 11:00am at Eureka Christian Church with Rev. Frank Purvis officiating. The family will greet friends Thursday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Grady-Thornton Cemetery.
Dwight is survived by his daughters, Shelly and Jeremie Fountain, Kelly Thornton and Summer Thornton and boyfriend, Micheal Johnson; brothers, Dean and Sandra Thornton, Douglas and Cheryl Thornton; sister, Gina Thornton; a brother in law, Mark Smith; three grandchildren, Jazlynn, Jaliyah and Nicole; and his canine companion, PupPup.
