Douglas Alvin Williams went to be with the Lord on October 22, 2023 at Kitty Askins
Hospice Center surrounded by his loving family. Born in Wayne County on August 29,
1933 to the late Alvin Blackman Williams and Ada Dunn Williams, Douglas was a 1951
graduate of Kenly High School. After graduation, he and his family moved to Grantham,
NC. He served briefly in the U.S. Army but returned home where he married Louise
McCullen on November 18, 1956.
Douglas truly enjoyed life on the farm and spent most of his life growing crops and
livestock. He was often considered to be an expert on anything farm related and many
people sought out his expertise and experience to help improve farming practices. He
was inducted into the Wayne County Agricultural Hall of Fame in 2019. His favorite
hobby was spending time in his vegetable and flower gardens with Louise by his side.
He saw his garden as not only a way to put food on his table, but as a way to share
with many family members, neighbors and friends.
He was a member of Providence Church where he served as a trustee, member of
Methodist Men and served as President of Providence Friends United. He had a great
love for his church, family and friends. He also treasured the friendships he built as a
member of the Grantham Grange.
Douglas is survived by his wife of almost 67 years, Louise. He is also survived by his
two sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and JoAnne of Grantham and Joseph and
Jenny of Clayton. The pride of his life was his five grandchildren: Justin and fiancé
Emily, Christina, Jordan, Jared and Jameson. He is also survived by a brother Linwood
and wife Judy and a sister, Elizabeth as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and
other family members who were very special to him.
The family will greet friends on Wednesday, October 25th from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at
Providence Church. A service to celebrate Douglas’ life will be held on Thursday,
October 26th at 11:00 am at Providence Church with Rev. David Pate officiating. Burial
will follow in the Providence Church Cemetery.
The family requests memorial gifts be directed to Providence Church, 202 Providence
Church Road, Goldsboro, NC 27530 and designated to the Property Fund.
