Dorothy Marie (Whaley) Rouse

Dorothy Marie Whaley Rouse, age 82, passed away Sunday at Wayne/UNC Health Care. Born in Duplin County, she was the daughter of the late David John and Geneva Wood Whaley. She was a member of Black Jack Free Will Baptist Church, where she was blessed with many loving and supportive friendships.

After 31 years of service, she retired from Burlington Industries and became an avid gardener. Her most favorite times were spent loving and sharing in the lives of her children. Beyond that, those who knew her will remember her best for her compassion and generosity in their times of need, as well as her witty sense of humor.

Funeral services to celebrate her life will be held Thursday, June 29, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home in Goldsboro with Rev. Franklin Lane and Mr. Chet Whitman officiating.  A private entombment will be in Wayne Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Mrs. Rouse is survived by her children, Elwood Wayne Rouse of Carolina Beach, NC and Sheila Rouse of Wilmington, NC; her grandchildren, Corey (& wife, Nicole), Brandon and Chris; great grandchildren, Tatum and Junior; her nephew, Tim Whaley; her nieces, Kay Everette and Doris Smith as well as a host of other nieces and nephews.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her ex husband & loving friend, Elwood Rouse;  son, Michael Keith Turner; great grandson, Rusty; three brothers and five sisters.
