Doris Ann Elks Jones, age 87, passed on to her Heavenly home on Sunday, September 15, 2024. Born in Wayne County, NC, she was the daughter of the late William Thomas Elks and Ellen Smith Elks and the wife of the late Garland Jones. A homemaker, she was a member of Antioch Original Free Will Baptist Church where she enjoyed Bible study. She was also a member of Antioch Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and TOPS of Goldsboro.
A graveside service to celebrate her life will be held Friday, September 20, 2024 at 11:00 am at Elks-Jones Cemetery, 1158 Antioch Church Road, Pikeville, NC with Rev. Greg Stancil officiating. The family will visit at the grave following the service at the cemetery.
She is survived by her son, Stephen Thornton; daughters, Doris Ann Grimm, Angela Joy Rose and Janice Miller (Jason); grandchildren, Nathaniel Miller, Stephanie Proctor, Ashley Trogdon, Amanda Howell, Barbara Thornton, Bridget Trogdon, Chris Trogdon, Steve McCullen, Cedric Rose, Wendy Lawrence, William Rose, Tommy Thornton, Tessa Hill, Monica Eason and Joshua Thornton; numerous great & great-great grandchildren; her “four legged” babies, “Peanut’, “Smoky” and “Leia”.
In addition to her parents and husband, Doris was preceded in death by her sons, George Thornton, Jr., and Danny Thornton; daughter, Katherine Trogdon; sisters, Helen Vinson and Joyce Williams.
