David Lee West

David Lee West, age 58, passed away Wednesday, October 23rd at his residence. Born in Wayne County, he was the son of Linwood E. Cherry and the late Betty Dudley Cherry. He was also preceded in death by his father, Hallie B. West and mother, Jaqueline Stewart West, along with grandparents, Goldie L. Dudley, Charlie & Lossie Cherry. David was a 1984 graduate of Southern Wayne High School and was the second Eagle Scout awarded through Boy Scout Troop 92. He was an avid Dale Earnhardt and UNC basketball fan.

A service to celebrate David’s life will be held on Wednesday evening, October 30th at 7:00pm at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home Chapel.

In addition to his father, David is survived by his wife, Nancy Mayo West; two daughters, Stephanie West and Ashley West; his siblings, Marie West and husband, Jose, Michale Cherry, Tim Cherry and wife, Gina, and Lynn Cherry. Also he leaves behind nephews, Jonathon Cherry and wife, Brittany, Tyler Newton, Michael Newton and his loving cats.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts should be directed to and designated for the Western North Carolina Mountains Hurricane Relief Effort at the Samaritan’s Purse, P.O. Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607.
