Constance Van Loon Obituary

Constance June Adolphs Van Loon was born on April 28, 1942 in University Park, Iowa. She was the second of four children to her parents, Alvin & Margaret Adolphs. Growing up she played basketball and enjoyed ice skating. She was involved in theater, youth ministry at church, choir and also played piano.

Constance met her future husband of 61 years, Theo (Ted), in highschool. Ted joined the U.S. Air Force in 1960 and Constance (Connie), followed him to Holland where they were married. During their service they were stationed in Holland, Texas, Thailand, Montana, Kansas, Okinawa, and NC. They had two children, Victoria Lynn and Kristina June, while stationed in Holland. When Ted was stationed in Thailand, Connie was living with her relatives in Iowa where she welcomed their third child Suzanne Kay. Suzi passed away from a rare genetic disorder at 12 years old.

Connie and Ted settled in Dudley, NC at the end of his military career. Ted then became a high school auto mechanics teacher and Connie spent 30 years as a paralegal.

For leisure, Connie enjoyed RV camping, singing in the Third Century Singers, Red Hatters Club and was a very active church member serving on committees, boards and singing in the choir. Each summer, Connie and Ted would take a trip to Iowa in their RV to see their relatives and attend family reunions. After they were both retired, they greatly enjoyed traveling and camping all over the US, visiting family and friends.

They were always very involved in their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren’s lives, attending birthdays, sporting events, proms, graduations, and so much more.

Connie knew how to cook for a crowd, was a good seamstress, loved all types of crafts including crocheting, tatting and painting. She loved sitting in the sun with her toes in the sand at the beach for hours watching her grandchildren play. She also enjoyed playing games and corresponding with friends and family with beautiful penmanship.

A service to celebrate Connie's life will be held on Monday, December 4, 2023 at 11:00am at the Dudley Christian Church. Burial will follow in Wayne Memorial Park. The family will greet friends on Monday one hour prior to the service at the church fellowship hall.

Connie was a grandmother to 4 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren whom she loved very much.
