Clifton D. Broadhurst

Clifton D. Broadhurst, a cherished member of the Rochester community and a dedicated professional, passed away peacefully on June 1, 2026, in Rochester, New York. Born on January 27, 1935, in Goldsboro, North Carolina, Clifton lived a life marked by commitment, warmth, and an enduring zest for life.

Clifton devoted an impressive 55 years to the University of Rochester, where he served faithfully as a Transportation Supervisor. His long tenure there speaks to his steadfast work ethic and the respect he earned from colleagues and peers. Beyond his professional accomplishments, Clifton was deeply involved in his community, notably coaching Pop Warner football, nurturing young athletes, and instilling values of teamwork and perseverance.

A very social person by nature, Clifton took great pleasure in spending time outdoors, tending lovingly to his yard—an activity that brought him peace and joy. He was also known for his keen competitive spirit, enjoying spirited games of spades and his daily engagement with the New York Lottery’s daily numbers. In his younger years, Clifton’s passion extended to baseball, reflecting a lifelong appreciation for sports and camaraderie.

Clifton’s faith was a cornerstone of his life. He was a proud member of the Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, where his dedication and fellowship left a lasting impact on his church family.

A service to celebrate the life of Clifton will be held on Friday, June 12, 2026 at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home in Goldsboro with the family visiting one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Broadhurst Family Cemetery on Indian Springs Road in Seven Springs, N.C. A viewing to honor Clifton’s life will be held on June 10, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at New Comer Funeral Home, Eastside, located at 6 Empire Blvd, Rochester, NY 14609. Family, friends, and all who knew Clifton are invited to pay their respects and celebrate a life richly lived.

The family will also be greeting friends on Thursday, June 11, 2026 at the old family home, 4386 Hwy. 117, Dudley, NC.

He is survived by a large and loving family who will forever cherish his memory: his children Jerry Broadhurst, Clifton Bernard (Althea LaGail) Broadhurst, Larry (Nadine) Broadhurst, Gale Broadhurst, Kenneth Broadhurst, Percy Broadhurst, Cynthia Broadhurst-Jones, Michael Townsend, and Cynthia Townsend; his seventeen grandchildren; thirty-one great grandchildren; and eleven great great grandchildren; his sister Doreatha Sutton; a sister in law, Marie Newkirk and his special nephew, Wendell Broadhurst. He also leaves behind special children Sonya Nathan, William Gatewood, OJ Casey, and Howard Gatewood, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins who held him dear. Clifton was preceded in death by his beloved parents, John David and Martha Lofton Broadhurst, and his brothers Ernest, Stewart, and Ray Broadhurst.

Clifton D. Broadhurst’s legacy is one of dedication, kindness, and joy. His memory will remain a guiding light to all who had the privilege to know him.
