Betty Jean Paschall Grantham, age 85, passed away in the early morning hours of Sunday September 22, 2024 at Wayne UNC Healthcare with her adoring family by her side. She was born in Wayne County to the late John Ancel Paschall and Bessie Cora (Sewell) Paschall.
Betty was a member of Antioch Presbyterian Church. She was a published poet as well as a talented singer; she began singing at age 4 at the Paramount Theatre and later with the Paschall Sisters on WGBR. She met her husband at a Sunday singing.
Funeral services to celebrate Betty’s life will be held Saturday, September 28, 2024 at 2:00 pm from the chapel of Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home with Pastor Kelley Buffaloe officiating. Burial will follow in Wayne Memorial Park. A time of visitation for family and friends will be held from 1:00 pm to 1:45 pm on Saturday at the funeral home.
Betty is survived by her husband of 63 years, Jerry Bryan Grantham, Sr.; her daughter, Laura G. Stevens (Michael); her son, Jerry Bryan Grantham, II (Patricia); sisters, Jyme Hare, Gayle Shirley, and Ellen Alberti; grandchildren, Corinna Bakke, Justina Bakke, Eric Stevens (Tali), Aaron Stevens (Shannon), Sara Stevens, Isaac Stevens, Emily Stevens, Jenna Stevens, Jared Grantham, Kailley Grantham and Alex Grantham; great grandchildren, Lucien, Nika, Leni, and Maris.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Suzette Bakke; grandson, Joshua Bakke; sister, Annette Caulk.
