Betty Gray (Kornegay) French

Betty Kornegay French, age 81, passed away Friday at ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville, NC. Born in Wayne County, NC, she was the daughter of the late Jodie F. and Lillie Mae Grady Kornegay.  Betty graduated from Grantham High School and earned an Associates Degree in Business from Mt. Olive College. After College, she worked with Cates Pickle Company and later retired from Hevi Duty as a customer service representative after 30 years of service. She was a faithful member of Rhodes Friends Meeting in Mt. Olive, NC, serving as the Sunday School Secretary and an officer & member of the ladies’ missionary society.  Betty also taught Sunday School and was a member of the hospitality committee for several years.

A Funeral Service to celebrate her life will be held Friday, September 23. 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Rhodes Friends Meeting with Rev. Richard Hill and Rev. Carroll Overman officiating. Burial will follow in Wayne Memorial Park. A time of visitation for family and friends will be held Thursday, September 22, 2022 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home.

Betty is survived by her daughter, Melissa French (& boyfriend, Willie Crumpler); her grandchildren, Emily Jackson (& husband, Aaron) and Jason French; her great grandson, Maddox Jackson; her sister, Linda Outlaw (& husband, Emmett); her daughter-in-law, Sherry French; her niece, Jodie Helfrich (& husband, Michael); her nephew, Christopher Outlaw (& wife, Elizabeth); several special step grandchildren; and her special canine companion, “Sahara”.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Jeff French.
