Betty Cherry Obituary

Betty Lou Dudley Cherry, age 73, died Saturday. Born in Johnston County, she was the daughter of the late Willie Leon Dudley and Goldie Lucy Belle Stanley Dudley and sister of the late Hubert Dudley, Coleman Dudley, Essie Dudley Eason, Thena Dudley Anderson, Dewey Dudley, Mearle Dudley McFatter, Bill Dudley, Mary Dudley Close, Bessie Dudley Pittman, Vernon Dudley, Frank Dudley and three babies that died early in their family.

Betty is leaving behind a loving and dedicated husband of 58 years and five loving children, eleven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. She is also leaving behind her loving pet dog named Gordy, her parrot named Fred, a dear nephew, Rodney Redick, a dear friend, Brenda Wilder of Dudley and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Betty is gone to Heaven to meet with her other siblings and to join her mother and father and aunts and uncles – “Oh what a glorious reunion”. A special recognition, Betty leaves behind a lot of love to her church family and the family will cherish all the love and support you have shown her through the years. A very special Thank You to the loving staff of Community Home Care and Hospice, Julie Lee, Linda Moore, Leslie Lane, Pastor Ramon Mizell, Dr. Carmack, Dr. Samuels and Dr. Kasbari. Thank you all for the love and care provided.

A service to celebrate Betty’s life will be held Saturday, September 14, 2019 at 2:00 pm at the Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home with Pastor Jeff Dail and Pastor Rodney Redick officiating. Burial will follow in Wayne Memorial Park. Family members will greet friends Saturday from Noon until 1:30pm at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home and at other times will be at the home of her daughter, Michale’ Cherry, in the Rosewood Community.

Betty is survived by her husband, Linwood Earl Cherry; her children, Lynn Cherry Sutton of Dudley, Tim Cherry and wife, Gina of Goldsboro, Michale’ Cherry of Goldsboro, David West and wife, Nancy of Dudley, and Marie West of Goldsboro; eleven grandchildren, Stephanie West Eberst and husband, Brandon of Goldsboro, Ashley West of Goldsboro, Eboney Sherard Teachey of Dudley, Clarice Sherard of Dudley, Sarah Sutton of Dudley, Jessica Griffin Bowers and husband, Matt of Morehead City, Melody Griffin of Martinsville, VA, Amber Griffin of Bryson City, NC, Tyler Newton of Goldsboro, Michael Newton of Goldsboro, and Jonathon Cherry of Goldsboro; ten great grandchildren, Caroline Cherry of Goldsboro, Isabella Teachey of Dudley, Emma, Levi, and Nolan of Morehead City, Deanna, Brysen, Kendall and Taylor of Martinsville, VA and Baby JJ of Dudley; her siblings, Pearlie and Bill Daniels of Ohio, Wood and Brenda Dudley of Florida; and her nephew, Rodney Redick of Tennessee.
