Barbara A. Marquez, 77, of Dudley passed away Thursday evening at Duke Hospital in Durham. She was the daughter of the late Walter James and Margaret Whitfield Patterson. Barbara was a member of the Woodmen of the World, and Mt. Olive First Pentecostal Holiness Church. She loved to travel, especially trips to the beach, as well as volunteering at the Faison Gym, spending time with her family and her dog, Beau. She was a loving mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. She rarely met a stranger. Born on her mother's birthday, she was a very special birthday gift.
A graveside service to celebrate her life will be held Sunday, January 21, 2024 at 3:00 P.M. in Wayne Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2:00 until 3:00 P.M. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home.
Barbara is survived by her son, Josh Marquez and fiancé, Breanne Butterfield of Raleigh; her granddaughter, Kayla Alphin of Raleigh; a son in law, Kevin Alphin of Beulaville; nieces, Phyliss Tucker and Valarie Owen; and many more nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her daughter, Stephanie Alphin, her sisters, Helen Hinson and Shirley Kelly; as well as a special friend, Frank Epley.
