Alpha Harless Spears, age 80, passed away Friday at Wayne UNC Health Care. She was born in Lee County, VA to the late Bascom and Justine Harless and was wife of the late Frank Spears. She was also preceded in death by sisters, Allie Neal, Cory Murray and Bertha Hilton. Alpha was an avid gardener who kept a garden as long as her health allowed. She loved cooking for and spending time with her family and friends.
A service to celebrate her life will be held Thursday, October 24, 2019 at 2:00 pm at Province Funeral Home in Pennington Gap, VA. The family will be receiving friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Lee Memorial Gardens in Pennington Gap, VA.
Mrs. Spears is survived by her daughters, Cathy Hughes and husband, Billy, JoAnne Williams and husband, Michael; sons, Lonnie Schwartz, Mark Schwartz and husband, Ethan; brothers, TJ Harless and wife, Judy, Arville Harless and wife, Wanda, and Gary Harless; sisters, Patty Newton and Rita Bartman and husband, Tim; four grandchildren, Glynn Hughes, Billy Easterday, Justin Williams, Christina Williams; and three great grandchildren, Corbin Hughes, Adrian Hughes and William Easterday; along with several nieces and nephews who were very special to her.
