Alice Kay Hood Lewis, age 82, passed away Sunday evening at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville, NC. Born in Goldsboro, NC, she was the daughter of the late Gordon Grover and Mildred Inez Sasser Hood. A former Miss Goldsboro, she was a graduate of Goldsboro High School and East Carolina University earning a bachelor's degree in education. She taught middle school students for 39 years prior to retiring to Beaufort, NC and continued to teach as an instructor with Carolina Ocean studies. She was a volunteer with the NC Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores and the NC Maritime Museum. She attended The Vine Fellowship Church and loved to travel, garden and sew.
In college, she met Charles “Charlie” Franklin Lewis as he was a basketball player and she was a cheerleader. These college sweethearts were married on August 27, 1961.
Along with her husband, Kay is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Eric & Bettie Blue Lewis, Scott & April Lewis and Chad & Lisa Lewis; her brothers and sisters-in-law, Keith & Pam Hood and Kyle & Joy Hood; her grandchildren, Sawyer, Carly (Travis), Ethan, Connor, Cullen and Harrison; her great grandchildren, Logan, Scarlet and Spencer.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Jeffress Kyle Lewis.
There will be a visitation for family and friends on Saturday, July 22, 2023 at the The Vine Fellowship Church from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family ask for memorial contributions be directed to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, in loving memory of their son, Jeffress Kyle Lewis.
