SPC (SO – E4) Alden Galuteria-Soares (aka- John Alden Short), age 21, passed away suddenly on Saturday, December 26, 2020. He was a 2017 graduate of Charles B. Aycock High School, attended Wayne Community College and joined the United States Army on January 3, 2018. He completed basic training on April 6, 2018 in Fort Sill, OK , transferred to Fort Lee, Va., where he graduated in August, 2018. Alden earned his Associate Degree in Supply Chain Management from the American Military University and was working towards his Bachelors Degree. Alden was currently stationed in Hawaii.
Funeral services will be held Monday, January 18, 2021 at 2:00 pm at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home Chapel with full military honors and Dr. Pete Norris officiating. A visitation will be held Sunday, January 17, 2021 from 2:00 to 5:00 pm at the funeral home.
Alden is survived by his mother, Wanda Johnson of Goldsboro, NC; his husband, Hoku Galuteria-Soares of Hawaii; great grandmother, Jennie Harris of Smithfield, NC; mother-in-law, Sommer Soares of Hawaii; grandmother-in-law, Abigal Galuteria of Hawaii; father, Quentin Slade Short of Fremont; half-sister, Kelly Blanchard (Matt) of Four Oaks, NC; nephews, Braelyn and Rylan Blanchard; paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John Short of New Bern, NC; numerous Aunts & Uncles as well as numerous cousins; special pets, Jacob & Stache.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Johnson and great grandpa, Relphord (Red) Harris.
