Michael DeGrechie Obituary

Michael David “Mike” DeGrechie, age 70, passed away at his residence. Born in Saint Albans, VT, he was the son of the late Robert James DeGrechie and Merle Lynskey DeGrechie and brother of the late Nikki DeGrechie. Mike was a well known banker in Wayne County and a Veteran of the US Army. Although he had a great sense of humor and was known to play jokes on both friend and foe, he was always there to help anyone in need. He was a former Berkeley Civitan and was proud of his time with the Civitan Clowns. He enjoyed sports, coaching young children at the Boys and Girls Club and loved Notre Dame Football. He spent many, many hours with his buddies playing golf and also enjoyed time spent in Maine fishing offshore.

Mike was a great Dad to his girls and adored his grandsons. He could never tell them “No”. He was very proud to be a Goldsboro High School Earthquake and looked forward to any time there was a reunion, especially with his former football teammates.

A service to celebrate Mike’s life will be held Monday at 2:00 pm at the First Baptist Church with Dr. Glenn Phillips officiating. Family members will greet friends in the church fellowship hall immediately following the service and at other times at the home of Marion DeGrechie.

Mike is survived by his best friend and former wife, Marion DeGrechie; his daughters and son in law, Tara DeGrechie, Erin DeGrechie Buskey and Casey DeGrechie Roberts and husband, Bill; two brothers and sisters in law, Tony DeGrechie and wife, Gina of Las Vegas, NV, Jeff DeGrechie and wife, Kathy of York, ME; five grandchildren, Ian Settle, Joshua Buskey, Alec Buskey, Jacob Kaupa and Gus Roberts; two honorary grandchildren, Casey Miller and Parker McIlvaine; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family requests no flowers and memorial gifts may be directed to the First Baptist Church Youth Group/Belize Mission Fund, P.O. Box 1538, Goldsboro, NC 27533.
