Erma Roberts Highsmith, age 92, died Monday morning. She was born in Buncombe County to the late Wallace Walter and Myrtle Ermantrude Roberts and was married to the late William Sherrod Highsmith. Erma was raised at the Odd Fellows Home of Goldsboro and graduated from Goldsboro High School. She retired from Cherry Hospital where she worked as a switch board operator and receptionist and was a member of Oak Forest church of Christ.
A service to celebrate the life of Erma will be held Saturday at 2:00pm at Oak Forest church of Christ with Mr. Robert Goff officiating. The family will be receiving friends immediately following the service. A private burial will be held.
Mrs. Highsmith is survived by her daughters, Judy Turcotte and husband, Ken, Nancy D’Eufemia and husband, Joe, Sherry Highsmith and husband, Vince Bletch, and Margaret Highsmith and husband, Jerry Snyder; one sister, Lillian R. Stewart; eleven grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by seven brothers and sisters, Frances R. Elkins, Nell R. Elkins, Corda Mae Maney, Walter Roberts, Essie Lee Triplett, Robert Roberts and Eugene Roberts.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Odd Fellows Scholarship Fund, c/o Buck Abrams, 158 Quail Dr., Dudley NC 28333 or to Carolina Bible Camp, 1988 Jericho Church Rd., Mocksville NC 27028.
