Phyllis C. Mozingo, 62, died at Kitty Askins Hospice Center Saturday morning. Born in Wayne County, she was the daughter of Edna Kennedy Capps of Grantham and the late Charles L. Capps. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Mike Mozingo; a sister, Karen Denise Capps; a brother, Charles Anthony Capps; and her grandparents, John and Hazel Kennedy and Viola Capps. Phyllis was a member of Black Jack Grove Original Free Will Baptist Church. She was a dedicated volunteer with both the Grantham and Mount Olive Rescue Squads having served as the Captain in Mount Olive. She was a leader with the Grantham Junior Rescue Squad, leading them to several first place awards.
A service to celebrate her life will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 am at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home with Rev. Franklin Lane officiating. Burial will follow in Wayne Memorial Park. Family members will greet friends Monday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at the funeral home.
In addition to her mother, Phyllis is survived by her nephew, Felipe Daniel Capps; niece Kelly Marie Capps; several special cousins, aunts and uncles; her special companion, Axle and all her rescue family.
